Eat More And Still Lose Weight

By Kate Barker

Losing weight does not go hand in hand with feeling hungry all the time as some of you guys may worry about. Now I know you need to keep your stamina up (wink wink) so here are some healthy weight loss principles which will allow you to eat and lose weight – yes really! Let’s call it the eat more guide.

So eat more…………

Fruit and veg – Low in calories and fat but jam packed with lots of nutritional benefits. Use to bulk out a meal to fill you up or snack on fruit throughout the day to stop the hands delving into the biscuit tin mid morning!

Fibre – Helps the whole digestive process, plus wholegrains keep you feeling full for longer as they are a lower GI food (if you don’t know what I’m on about now just trust me on this one). Simple switches like trading in the white bread for brown or having wholegrain pasta and brown rice will have the pounds dropping off without you even feeling like you are trying.

Protein – Great if you are trying to build up muscle plus protein will keep you feeling full up for longer. So if you find you are snacking during the afternoon try adding more protein to your lunch. Add tuna, chicken or prawns to your sandwich or maybe a pasta salad and you’ll lose fat and retain more lean body mass. Some people, when dieting will end up losing muscle as opposed to fat if they are not careful, which is something I guess you lot don’t want.

Dairy – Go for the low fat varieties e.g. low fat yogurts, semi-skimmed milk, low fat cottage cheese. The result - strong bones, you’ll be thankful of that later on. Plus all that good bacteria in yoghurts will help keep you healthy.

Water – I know you are always being told to drink your 2 litres a day but that’s because it really does make a difference. It will raise your metabolism, and have your body working at its optimum. Plus thirst can often be mistaken for hunger as the trigger signals are the same for both. So keep sipping that water and you will reduce your calorie intake without even being conscious of it.

The Easy Way To Lose Weight

By Mark Heywood

Open any magazine these days and you could be forgiven for believing that the only way to lose weight and get into shape is to dive headlong into a grueling fitness plan.

However they all make the same mistake of assuming that if you need to lose a little weight then you must also need to run a marathon or compete in a triathlon. Nothing could be further from the truth!

See, hard competition training and just getting into shape are at opposite ends of the fitness spectrum and never likely to meet. In the exercise and gym culture, one size most definitely doesn't fit all.

So if you are not training for the next Olympics, what can you do to shed pounds and get into shape? Quite simply, just undo all the things that got you into your recent situation.

Which for most folks was a double sin of eating too much of the wrong things and doing little or no exercise.

So it stands to reason that if you want to lose weight and feel fitter, you need to eat less of the bad foods and more of the good stuff. And get your body moving! All it takes is a little spare time and effort.

Start off gently, by taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Forget the car for all those short journeys, going on foot is far healthier and you get to enjoy the scenery too. Take the dog with you and share some quality time. The whole point of this is to make you appreciate that exercise is a part of your daily routine, not some pain that you need to put yourself through as punishment for eating.

As you start to notice the benefits, just enhance your target little by little. Walk more often or increase your distance. Carry a rucksack with a small weight to add a little resistance to your routine.

Drinking a glass of water before every meal will make you feel full sooner as well as fending off dehydration. Water also helps to keep your digestive system regular so make sure that you drink plenty throughout the day.

By making a few minor changes to your diet and your lifestyle, you will soon start to feel more energetic, younger and a whole lot better. Now isn't that better than risking a heart attack on the squash court?

Take your exercise to the next level with your own home exercise equipment. Mark Heywoods website features tips for buying a treadmill to help you choose the best recommended treadmill for your requirements.

What To Eat To Lose Weight

By Craig McPherson

I`m fat. Well, I was till I found out what to eat to lose weight. The good news is we can both do something about it. Bear with me while I sink into a bit of history here. During the 80`s I was 20-30yo. I was very active in sports and my job was very manual. I was (and still are) 180cms (5ft 11in) and a well built 85kgs(185lbs). As a garbage collector during the day and my 3 day/week training regime for football I was very fit.

As I hit my 30`s I did notice my stomach getting bigger. Due to a combination of cutting my training down AND the implementation of automation in my job which did not require me to run behind a garbage truck anymore.

I left that job for a position in the hospitality industry as a manger of a pub. Now let me tell you, pub food & easy access to alcohol is not a good mix. The kilos piled on. I was oblivious to it of course. First I reached 90kgs, then 95. I stayed at 95kgs for the next 4 years and accepted this as my normal weight. Afterall, my Dad and a brother are both over 100kgs and genetics was my excuse for this.

I had toyed with the idea of putting in the effort to lose weight but the pain of doing it was greater than the gain. That was until I stepped on the scales a month ago out of curiousity and nearly fell over..... 102kgs (225lbs). Do you have any idea what seeing 3 figures on a scale feels like. Maybe you do. It is gut wrenching (Pardon the pun).

My search was on. I scoured everywhere for a method to get my weight under 100kgs. I had to find out what to eat to lose weight Nothing,Until...I stumbled across a book. I downloaded it and read it and thought that it had merit. I did nothing about it till a week later when I read it again. This time the light came on. "I can do this" I thought. It is easy.

The strategies were a piece of cake ( I still eat cake too). The hardest part was NOT doing as it said. After 21 days of starting this I have lost 7.5kgs (17lb). I still have another 8kgs to lose. My goal weight is 87kgs.All the gurus tell me I should be 80 kgs for my height but that will not happen due to my frame and bone structure. I will be comfortable at 87kgs. I will re-access the situation then and decide if 2 or 3 more should come off.

Already my work colleagues have noticed not only the difference in my size but my demeanour has changed too. Energy is up ( my wife is happy),and I have noticed an improvement in my concentration & decision making.

Do you want to know the real bonus though? I still eat exactly what I ate before this. Here is a sample of what I have eaten the last 7 days.

Cereal
Toast with butter and peanut butter
Sandwiches
Chicken Parmigiani with vegies
Cream bun
Jam Tart
Coffee with sugar
Calamari
Porterhouse Steak
Lollies ( I love `em)
Toasted Sandwiches

All the things I have adored for years are still eaten.

There is one point I should mention. The book states that no strenuous exercise should be taken. Because of my still competitive nature I have hit the pavement 3 times a week. Nothing dramatic mind you. I hardly get a sweat up though. Actually, I nearly got arrested on one jog for loitering, that`s how slow I go.

Seriously folks, this is a cinch. That simple little book has changed my life for the better. All it did was guide me as to what to eat to lose weight.

So grab your day planner and calendar, and jot down at least 30 minutes a day for working out with physical fitness activities.

Plan Your ‘Fat’ Attack

Next do a little homework and plan your attack on those extra fat pounds. You can choose among many popular fitness and weight loss plans like Weight Watchers, the Suzanne Somers Weight Loss Program, the Mayo Clinic Plan, Atkins, Bill Philips Body for Life Program, Jenny Craig, Slim-Fast and more. Or you can head to your local gym and hire a trainer or just get moving on your own, noting reps, and resistance for increased endurance and strength training.

Mental Mindset

Make an attitude adjustment so that you have a positive, healthy outlook for your fitness goals. For help getting this mindset and keeping it going throughout your program, head to your local library for motivational and inspirational books, audio cassettes, DVDs, videos and articles.
